Lights Out
Okay, so I always get into spats about leaving lights on in the house. Yeah, I'm for cutting down on electric power usage, lessening the carbon foot print, reducing pollution of all sorts but when I heard these stats this morning, I added one more thing to the cauldron.
Last year, just before the start of the cold weather, ComEd cut off power to some 12,000 familes. That's almost 200 families a day over a two month period. Meanwhile, ComEd's parent company posted in the quarter ending Dec. 31 $524 million last year. It's not like they upgraded the grid or anything important, ComEd gave their two top executives $1.2M raise and $1.3M in political donations to various Illinois politicians. This payoff won a wonderful rate increase for me and you.
While I have switched from ComEd to Spark, I'm still cutting down on electrical use. Why feed the salaries of these overpaid, heartless bastards, who will cut you off in a second because they want to die the richest deteriorating chunk of flesh in the cemetery with an awesome rock star light show?
